Wetherby Karate joins forces with Otley JiuJitsu to kick out at child cruelty !

When the instructors at Kenshinkan Martial Arts asked the students which charity they would like to support

there was no competition! The students voted unanimously to support the NSPCC.

The students of the Otley JuiJitsu club joined forces with the Karate students in the

Kenshinkan Wetherby club to see how many round-house kicks they could do in a minute.

A minute is a very long time when you are kicking non-stop but the fine martial artists didn’t falter

and all went on to complete over 90 kicks each!

Top kickers on the day where Wetherby Karate student blue belt Gordon Barron who did 119 hard kicks in

one minute (that’s 2 per second!) and Otelys’ junior yellow  belt student Callum Barrington who managed a

staggering 116 kicks.

The Otley and Wetherby students did fantastically well, 2nd DAN instructor Clare Hooker said “we have raised far

more than we had hoped and the stamina and determination of all the students was a tribute to what martial training can

do for young people”.

In total our generous sponsors donated £551.35 to help the NSPCC fight  their battle with child cruelty. Thanks must go the

Crossley Street School  in Wetherby and the Otley Methodist Church for their assistance and support.
